Renting and buying

Open a film and choose Rent or Buy. You need an account, which you create with email or Google.

  • On the web you pay by card. You can save the card for next time.
  • In the iPhone, iPad and Apple TV app you pay with an App Store in-app purchase.
  • Rent: 30 days to start watching, then 48 hours to finish.
  • Buy: the film stays in your library and you can watch it as often as you like.

Everything you have rented or bought is under Library, on all your devices.

Where you can watch

  • Web: at rio.watch in an up-to-date browser (Chrome, Safari, Edge or Firefox).
  • iPhone and iPad: in the Rio app from the App Store.
  • Apple TV: in the Rio app for Apple TV.
  • TV from the web: Chromecast works from Chrome. AirPlay works on the web only in Safari on Mac, iPhone and iPad. In the Rio app on iPhone and iPad, AirPlay always works.

Signing in on Apple TV

  • Open the Rio app on your Apple TV and choose Sign in. A code appears on the TV.
  • Go to rio.watch/tv on your phone or computer and sign in to your account.
  • Enter the code from the TV. Done, the TV signs in automatically.

The code is valid for a few minutes. If it has expired, start sign-in again on the TV.

Frequently asked questions

The film will not start or keeps stopping. What do I do?

  • Check your internet connection.
  • Update your browser or the app to the latest version and reload the page.
  • Turn off any VPN, and try without private browsing: films are copy protected and some private modes block playback.
  • Connected to an external display? Not all displays and cables support the copy protection (HDCP). Try without it.
  • Try another browser or device.

Still not working? Email support@rio.pictures and we will help, and refund you if the fault is ours.

Why does it say the film is not available in my region?

Film rights apply per country, and rio.watch is available in Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Finland and Iceland. We see which country you are in from your IP address. A VPN can make it look as if you are somewhere else, so turn it off. Rentals can only be watched where the film is licensed. Purchased films can usually also be watched while travelling.

How long can I watch a rental?

You have 30 days to start watching. Once you press play you have 48 hours to finish, and you can watch several times during that time.

I bought a film in the app but cannot find it.

Make sure you are signed in with the same Rio account you used when buying. Then go to Profile > Restore purchases in the app on iPhone or iPad to fetch your purchases from the App Store again. If that does not help, email us.

Can I watch films I bought on the web in the app, and the other way round?

Yes. What you rent or buy is linked to your Rio account and appears in your library everywhere you are signed in.

How do I get a refund?

Web purchases: email support@rio.pictures with your receipt. App Store purchases: request a refund from Apple at reportaproblem.apple.com. Read more in the terms of use.

I am a Rio 4-Ever member. What do I get on rio.watch?

Members sometimes get free or discounted rentals. Sign in with the same email address as your membership and it is linked to your account. The membership is managed by Bio Rio at biorio.se.

How do I stop getting newsletters?

Click the unsubscribe link in any newsletter, or turn the newsletter off under Profile on the web.

How do I delete my account?

Go to Profile > Delete account in the app or on the web. Films you bought can no longer be watched once the account is deleted. A Rio 4-Ever membership is not cancelled automatically; cancel it with Bio Rio. Read more in the privacy policy.
